Gareth Howells

Gareth Howells Profile

Biography:

After gaining a degree in Politics and English at sport mad Loughborough University, Gareth decided that a career in sports travel was an ideal fit. An interest in many sports as well as experiences in organising and volunteering at sporting events backed this up. Joining the company in 2014 a year after finishing University, Gareth is excited by the prospect of organising tours for a variety of teams while creating some great memories along the way.

Gareth was a keen runner for Severn Athletic Club in his teens and represented Gloucestershire in Cross Country at the U/20 Inter-Counties Championships. Also a keen rugby player he has played for Gloucester club Longlevens since he was six, as well as watching Gloucester and Wales whenever he can. Aside from this Gareth enjoys playing golf and cycling in the summer months.

The summer of 2012 saw Gareth as a Games Maker at the London 2012 Paralympic Games. As a member of the track team he was on track for many packed nights at the Olympic Stadium. ‘Working’ here for two weeks made Gareth realise he wanted to be involved in sport in his career as well as the rest of his life.

Favourite Sports Tour Destination

“Edinburgh is by far my favourite destination for a tour, mainly due to the great memories I’ve had there. I first travelled there with Longlevens Rugby Club U/14s to watch the 2005 Heineken Cup Final and have since been back for three Scotland v Wales 6 Nations fixtures. I love the atmosphere in Murrayfield and the city’s great pubs.”

Most Memorable Sports Tour Experience

“Cycling the first stage of the 2014 Tour de France in Yorkshire was one of the hardest yet brilliant experiences I have had. I took on the challenge the day before the riders and the 120 mile circuit was a gruelling challenge. Spending the next few days watching the racing was far more relaxing and the atmosphere in Yorkshire was fantastic!"
