University Cricket Tours
The end of year tour at University is one of the most important events in the calendar with memories made, friendship sealed and legends created. This can therefore be a daunting task for the tour organiser, with so much to live up to it is hard to know where to begin.
Burleigh Travel have a vast network of contacts and over twenty years experience as a sports tour organiser. All of our cricket tours are tailored to you and your requirements, whether you want a hostel in a vibrant city with a social game or a hotel with some competitive cricket fixtures Burleigh Travel is the company for you.
Below we look at some of our top university cricket tour destinations to help you get the ball rolling.
Amsterdam has a seamless blend of history and modern flair; home to world famous sites such as Anne Frank's House and the Van Gogh museum it is also one of the party capitals of Europe with bars and nightclubs that cater to all music tastes.
One of the best ways to explore the wonders of this city is by bike. There are cyclists everywhere and bikes are easy to rent. This two wheeled experience has had a recent alcoholic inspired twist with the new beer bike tours. A bar on wheels; you are given a tour of the city while enjoying a drink with your team mates.
A brewery tour is a must during your stay in Amsterdam. The Heineken Experience is always popular. This consists of a tour of the brewer and some insight into the history of the brand, finished off with a tasting session. For something a little different check out the IJ Brewery which is a small microbrewery producing organic beer, housed in an old windmill (which is in fact the tallest in the country).
"We all really enjoyed our time in Holland! Our accommodation was fantastic, perfect for what we needed. Staff were friendly and helpful, always willing to give us advice on where to go etc. The inclusion of a bar and a nightclub at the hotel was also a nice feature! The host clubs were incredibly hospitable and we had a great time! Amsterdam CC were especially fun, and we thoroughly recommend them! It'll be myself organising tour again next summer, so I will definitely be back in contact with Burleigh in the new university year." - Hull University Cricket Club tour to Amsterdam
The island of Malta is still one of Europe's hidden treasures in terms of a holiday destination. It's 300 days of sun a year and the fact it is surrounded by some of the clearest blue seas in the Mediterranean would make it a perfect tour destination alone, but add in some of the best snorkelling and diving in the Mediterranean, its welcoming culture, fantastic food and unbelievable history and you have a tour destination not to be missed.
Malta's unique selling point must be its history. It has the greatest density of historic sights then any other country spanning 7,000 years. These include unique prehistoric temples, some of the oldest stone buildings in the world, Roman catacombs, medieval towns, and the extraordinary architectural and artistic legacy of the Knights of St John.
But don't worry the Island isn't stuck in the past! Malta is swiftly becoming one of the major clubbing and music hubs, with a range of bars and nightclubs open throughout the week. It has grown to such an extent that many of these clubs now often play host to some of the world's most renowned DJs. You will be based in St Julians, where the main nightclub scene is located. Here the clubs and bars are in abundance.
"Many thanks for the organisation of a fantastic cricket tour. Two matches were played, the capital Valletta was visited and enjoyment visible throughout. I would highly recommend Malta as a touring destination it is a manageable size and offers opportunities for good cricket, nightlife and culture, a rare mix!" - University of Manchester Cricket Club tour to Malta
Australia is a country full of adventure and unbelievable sights, from stunning landscapes and natural wonders to world famous buildings. Two of our most popular destinations are Melbourne and Sydney.
Sydney is home to the world famous Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge (which if you feel brave enough you can climb for epic views of the city).
Melbourne is a very vibrant and dynamic city, often considered to be Australia's cultural capital. With an impressive array of nightclubs, bars and live music there is always something going on. The sightseeing opportunities are equally impressive. Take a guided behind the scenes tour of Melbourne Cricket Ground or the F1 Albert Park race track, take a trip down to Phillip Island to see thousands of penguins and visit the Koala sanctuary, or find out all about sport in the National Sports Museum.
No tour to Australia is complete without visiting the Great Barrier Reef! One of Australia's, if not the world's, most impressive natural creations the Great Barrier Reef is the world's largest coral reef. Home to over 1500 species of fish, including the famous Clown Fish, 30 species of whales and dolphins and 6 species of turtles there is almost too much to try and see while snorkelling.
"Australia was a wonderful place for a cricket tour with its fantastic scenery, competitive cricket and good social side!" Liverpool University Cricket Tour to Australia
A cricket tour to the West Indies is a must for any cricket enthusiast. One of the world's most passionate and successful cricketing regions it is more a way of life then a game in the West Indies.
Barbados, a paradise island located in the Eastern Caribbean, is surrounded by emerald blue oceans lapping at white golden beaches. You will be based on the South Coast in the St Lawrence Gap area, which is where the majority of bars are located. The smallest, by far, of our top five Barbados is just 21 miles by 14 miles, but don't let that fool you into thinking you will run out of things to do. One of the most popular and most highly recommended trips is a day out on a catamaran where you get the chance to swim with tropical fish and even turtles. An island safari is a brilliant way to explore the island, or a rum tour to one of the local distilleries. On a Friday a trip to Oistins Fish Fry is a must with music, drinks and fresh fish on the BBQ (including sword fish, mahi-mahi and flying fish) it is a real Bajan experience.
As a region renowned for it's cricket you are sure to find some thrilling fixtures during your tour to Barbados. With brilliant facilities, flair, passion and a stellar reputation as hosts the teams in Barbados will certainly look to beat you on the field, and in the bar.
"Overall the tour was excellent. Communication at all stages from Burleigh Travel was second to none; both prior to and during the tour. Barbados is a wonderful destination for any touring side as it has something for everyone, people very keen on playing cricket will enjoy the cricket while those who are more interested in the social aspect will also have an excellent time. The Catamaran cruise was the highlight of the tour and everyone who goes to Barbados should experience this, it is the most relaxing experience one could ask for with good music, food and drink. I genuinely believe the Catamaran makes the tour. Harbour lights and Oistins fish market on Friday nights are also excursions that are a must for groups around our age, although not much can be remembered about these nights. Burleigh is an excellent company to work with and in 2 years when the club organise another tour I will be recommending Burleigh highly; as I will for any tours I do with my own local club." - Liverpool University Cricket Tour to Barbados
We have a number of destinations for our cricket tours to Spain, all offering something slightly different but still able to create a memorable tour. Four university teams we recommend Lloret de Mar or Majorca.
Lloret de Mar is one of the biggest and liveliest resorts on the Costa Brava. Renowned for its stunning beaches and lively nightlife this is a very popular area for tour groups looking for a good social side to their tour. Barcelona is just an hour away and there are numerous activities to keep you entertained during the day such as adventure and water parks, golf courses and the EU Blue Flag awarded beaches.
Majorca is the largest of the Balearic Islands. You will be staying on the South West of the island in the Palma Nova/Magaluf area. This area needs little introduction as it is famed for its nightlife and party atmosphere. Combine this with some fantastic diving opportunities, boat tours, water sports and theme parks you are sure to never have a dull moment.
While not a nation often thought of in regards to cricket Spain has a strong network of cricket clubs and societies due to it's strong ex-pat population. With natural passion for all things sport you are sure to find some brilliant fixtures and very warm hospitality from all the teams you face. With our extensive knowledge and links we will ensure that your matches are tailored to your needs and ability.
"On behalf of Cardiff University Cricket Club, I would like to thank you for organising such a fantastic Cricket tour to Mallorca. Mallorca Cricket Club was absolutely fantastic in accommodating 27 of us on 3 separate days. The bar staff was always on hand to serve us food and drink, which was much appreciated in the heat. Both games were very competitive and played in good spirits. We also felt it was a nice gesture from the chairman of the club to award the man of the match from the 2 games a Mallorca CC social shirt. This was our second tour with Burleigh travel following a successful tour to Malta in 2013. We look forward to touring with you for many years to come and would highly recommend your services to any sports clubs thinking of going on a tour. Once again, thank you to everyone at Burleigh travel for organising a very special tour and one that I’m sure our members will never forget!" - Cardiff University Cricket Tour to Mallorca
