Kinsale RFC U13’s Tour to Cheltenham
The team departed Cork on Friday morning and flew into Birmingham. Their first port of call was Vertical Limits Indoor Rock Climbing Centre in Worcester. They had two hours of exciting climbing with over 100 different routes to tackle. This was a brilliant team building activity to get the team working together before their first rugby fixture.
After the climbing, the young rugby players and their coaches boarded their coach and made the short journey to their accommodation in Cheltenham. Once they were checked in and unpacked they headed to Minchinhampton Rugby Club to take part in their first friendly rugby fixture. The game was well contested with players from both sides thoroughly enjoying it.
Upon completing the game both teams ejoyed a hog roast and some refreshments on a warm springs evening, kindly provided by Minchinhampton RFC; which was quoted as being one of the highlights of the tour from all of the boys.
Saturday morning saw the team enjoy a breakfast together before travelling to their second friendly fixture against Longlevens RFC. This was another closely fought match reported by both teams as a good clash! When the game finished the boys prepared for the main event of the day - the top flight premiership rugby match at neearby kingsholm between Gloucester Rugby and Bath; a derby fixture renowned for hard tackles and close score lines. The game finished Gloucester 17 – 18 Bath with 2 red cards being awarded and a countless number of yellows, and to top it all of a last minute streaker thought he would try and make a name for himself!! In the evening the touring party visited a local Cheltenham restaurant for their official tour meal and presentation, which was a great success.
The follow morning marked the end of their rugby tour and the team were greated at their hotel by their coach driver for the trip back to the airport and their flight home to Cork.
Burleigh Travel would like to thank Jeff Reynolds and Tom O’Connor from Kinsale RFC for being such a pleasure to work with on their junior rugby tour, and sending in the below tour report email:
"I want to give a BIG thank you to Burleigh Travel for your assistance in helping to make our rugby tour such a success. The kids and the adults really enjoyed themselves and as Chris predicted, it was a great bonding session for the players. Finally thanks for making all the arrangements and offering worthwhile advice. I will recommend your company to anybody else that crosses my bows and you should consider coming to Kinsale next year.
We went to watch the Gloucester v Bath match, which as you are aware was a real derby as reflected by the 2 red cards and the countless yellow cards. The lads were very amused by the streaker, did you organise him as well?
I would like to thank Chris and Kim for your wonderful hospitality on Friday night both at the club and at your home. The boys and the adults are still talking about it. It was one of those beautiful spring evenings in the West Country, beautiful surroundings, great hog roast, beverages and hospitality and we are very grateful to you both.
Our meal worked out great on the Saturday night and we managed to get all the players out of their beds early Sunday morning (just about!) to catch the flight home. We finished up with a breakfast in Kinsale for the touring party, family and friends.”
