The touring party headed up by Andy Sweeny were located in air-conditioned apartments on a complex that has a pool, restaurant, bar, supermarket and evening entertainment. Barbados offers an irresistible mix of laid-back Bajan lifestyle, where the tropical sun is fanned by the trade winds together with a host of sandy beaches dotted along the coastline. It used to be known as "Little England" and although the island has enjoyed 30 years of independence a warm welcome is always shown to its British visitors. Barbados also has an incredible nightlife with many venues such as the "Boat Yard" and "Harbour Lights" offering unlimited free drink promotion nights once an £8 - £10 admission fee is paid. ![]() Friday 18th April Having assembled at Gatwick for the 11.15 hours departure to Barbados, the Virgin Atlantic flight took approximately 8 hours and they arrived on the island at 15.00 hours local time. After a short transfer to their accommodation the group soon found themselves with the choice of relaxing by the pool or on the golden sands, which are within walking distance. Saturday 19th April This was a free day to help acclimatize. Beach cricket, relaxing by the pool and island tours were on offer. That evening the group travelled to Oistins Fish Fry, to see how the locals eat and party by the waterfront. They enjoyed one of the best fish meals ever! Sunday 20th April
The morning was free before going off at 15.30 hours to the first fixture: BOGNOR REGIS COLTS RFC v Barbados U/19's Squad XV The unique venue for this fixture was the Garrison Savannah ground where the pitch is in the middle of the island's horse racing course.
Having spent time with their hosts enjoying their version of post match rugby games, including the "Bajan tunnel", the party returned to their accommodation. |
