| GENERAL
INFORMATION This tour was a major achievement
for such a young age group and indeed they were the first U/14’s
rugby side to visit the island. The Darton School boys from Barnsley
under the guidance of teacher Mr Parkin fund raised throughout the
year under the slogan “From Barnsley to Barbados” and
the group were a credit to their school.
They opted for a 9-day tour based on the West coast of this friendly
Island. They were located in air-conditioned apartments on a complex
that has a pool, restaurant, bar, supermarket and evening entertainment.
Barbados offers an irresistible mix of laid-back Bajan lifestyle,
where the tropical sun is fanned by the trade winds together with
a host of sandy beaches dotted along the coastline. Known as “Little
England” although the island has enjoyed 30 years of independence
a warm welcome is always shown to its British visitors.

FRIDAY
18TH APRIL
The party assembled at Gatwick for their 11.15 hours Virgin Atlantic
flight to Barbados and after a flight of approximately 8 hours they
arrived on the island at 15.00 hours local time. A short transfer
to the accommodation followed and they soon found themselves relaxing
by the pool and on the golden sands, which were within walking distance.

The tourists won a closely
contested match. The opposition’s hospitality was very good
and having spent time with their hosts they returned to the accommodation. |

WEDNESDAY 23RD APRIL |
Today the group partook of
an unforgettable catamaran trip around the island. They left the hotel
at 09:00 to be transported to Bridgetown for the cruise along the
breathtaking West Coast of the Island. Darton School had sole use
of the ship which gave them two opportunities to snorkel with the
turtles. They swam and sunbathed on the decks of the glamorous vessel
and enjoyed a continental breakfast on arrival, open grill BBQ lunch
and an open bar.
