Previous Rugby Tours to BarbadosDARTON HIGH SCHOOL U14's RUGBY TOUR TO BARBADOSTour InformationDarton High School U14's Rugby Team This tour was a major achievement for such a young age group and indeed they were the first U/14’s rugby side to visit the island. The Darton School boys from Barnsley under the guidance of teacher Mr Parkin fund raised throughout the year under the slogan “From Barnsley to Barbados” and the group were a credit to their school. Barbados They opted for a 9-day tour based on the West coast of this friendly Island. They were located in air-conditioned apartments on a complex that has a pool, restaurant, bar, supermarket and evening entertainment. Barbados offers an irresistible mix of laid-back Bajan lifestyle, where the tropical sun is fanned by the trade winds together with a host of sandy beaches dotted along the coastline. Known as “Little England” although the island has enjoyed 30 years of independence a warm welcome is always shown to its British visitors.
Friday 18th April The party assembled at Gatwick for their 11.15 hours Virgin Atlantic flight to Barbados and after a flight of approximately 8 hours they arrived on the island at 15.00 hours local time. ![]() A short transfer to the accommodation followed and they soon found themselves relaxing by the pool and on the golden sands, which were within walking distance. Saturday 19th April This was a free day to acclimatise and the lads used it to enjoy a game of rugby on the beach opposite their hotel. ![]() The evening’s entertainment was a trip to Oistins Fish Fry to see how the locals eat and party by the waterfront. The group enjoyed one of the best fish meals they had ever had.
Sunday 20th April The morning was free before at 14.30 hours the team travelled to their first fixture: DARTON HIGH SCHOOL U/14’s vs Barbados U/14’s The unique venue for this was the Garrison Savannah ground where the pitch is in the middle of the islands race course. The tourists won a closely contested match. The opposition’s hospitality was very good and having spent time with their hosts they returned to the accommodation. Monday 21st April
Today the group took a guided tour of the island, followed by a visit to a beach club. ![]()
At the “Boat Yard”, a unique beachfront location, they were able to enjoy water trampolining, canoeing / kayaking and snorkelling, as well as lunch and drinks. Tuesday 22nd April DARTON HIGH SCHOOL U/14’s vs Barbados U/14’s This was another fun and competitive match again won by Darton and once their game was over they had ample time to socialise with their hosts before travelling back to their accommodation. ![]()
Wednesday 23rd April Today the group partook of an unforgettable catamaran trip around the island. They left the hotel at 09:00 to be transported to Bridgetown for the cruise along the breathtaking West Coast of the Island. Darton School had sole use of the ship which gave them two opportunities to snorkel with the turtles. They swam and sunbathed on the decks of the glamorous vessel and enjoyed a continental breakfast on arrival, open grill BBQ lunch and an open bar.
Thursday 24th April Today they had the opportunity to take a trip on the Jolly Roger pirate ship where an all-inclusive package to include food and drink can be arranged. Friday 25th April After breakfast the morning was free before leaving for the airport and the overnight return flight to Gatwick. |
