Coronavirus - Covid-19 Pandemic

Firstly and most importantly, we hope you are and your family are all safe and well and we wish you all the best over these difficult times.

In view of the well documented implications of the unprecedented worldwide Coronavirus pandemic, we want to reassure you that that the safety and well-being of all of our touring groups is very important to us and that we are closely monitoring advice from the Government, Foreign & Commonwealth Office and ABTA.

We have been dealing with the repatriation of clients stuck in Spain and are supporting our staff who are in self isolation.

Our office is now in full lockdown and we have very limited email access but those who are able to work are working around the clock to ensure that we can assist our customers with the most urgent needs and our goal is to ensure that anyone due to travel in the next seven days has been updated on their tour and given a list of options available to them, we will not however have the resources to enter into conversations over these options at this stage.

We will continue to contact tour organisers whose travel plans have been effected.

Best wishes at what is a difficult time for us all and thanks for your understanding,

The Burleigh Travel Team

Learning outside the classroom changes lives…

The Council for Learning Outside the Classroom believe that every young person should experience the world beyond the classroom as an essential part of learning and personal development, regardless of age, ability or circumstance. The LOtC Quality Badge is a nationally recognised indicator of good quality educational provision. It combines the essential elements of provision, learning and safety, into one easily recognisable and trusted accreditation scheme for all types of learning outside the classroom.

Sport and travel can have a hugely positive impact on pupils in a number of ways. Most obviously is the health benefit of playing sport, learning about fitness, their body and healthy eating. It can be a huge confidence boost for children and young adults and help them gain a greater self-awareness. It can help them build new relationships with their team mates and coaches, helping them to learn to be part of a team and trust others. In turn they learn about winning and losing, and often how taking part is the most important aspect. With both victory and defeat comes a better understanding of respect and how to treat others. This is further reinforced with their relationships with their coach and the match officials. Sport can also contribute to creating stronger academics. Children who play team sports are linked to stronger academic achievement. Through sports, they can learn the importance of time management and discipline.

Travel can give pupils a better understanding of the world around them, allowing them experience cultural variances and to see firsthand things they have learnt about at school. It can put in perspective their learning and place in the world. They will have the opportunity to try new food and learn to use new types of currency. It can test their language skills and teach them independence and how to problem solve away from their family.

A school sports tour with Burleigh Travel, therefore, not only gives you piece of mind as you know that you are only receiving the best service but the pupils will be growing and developing from a life changing experience.

Benefits of the LOtC Quality Badge for children and schools

The LOtC Quality Badge means that the holder has passed a robust assessment designed to ensure that they are meeting schools' learning and risk management needs, no matter what activities they offer. It should help schools identify good quality and safe provision, which will then in turn reduce red tape when planning educational visits.

If an organisation is displaying the LOtC Quality Badge schools can be assured that they have met required standards, so teachers do not need to carry out their own risk or quality assessments regarding the activities provided. In addition, applicants must be offering genuinely beneficial services to schools, to support their delivery of the curriculum.

The following are just a few of the services a provider must demonstrate before gaining the LOtC Quality Badge:

• Clear and accurate information given well in advance on services, amenities and costs. There should be no unpleasant surprises on the day!

• Full information given on the learning objectives of the activities on offer, and the flexibility to tailor activities according to your needs.

• Guidance and information on preparing your pupils for the visit, and following up on it back in the classroom, to help you to make the most of the learning opportunities.

• Skilled and enthusiastic educational staff or volunteers who can really bring a topic to life.

• A culture of listening to schools’ feedback and working to meet their requirements.

• Robust risk management, safeguarding and child protection procedures across all areas of the business.
