The players from Garden Fields Cricket Club, St. Albans enjoyed a long weekend cricket tour to one of our newest cricket tour destinations: Coimbra, Portugal….yes that’s right a cricket tour to Portugal!

This fantastic new destination is proving a popular alternative cricket tour destination for adult cricket teams looking to tour within Europe to enjoy some sunshine and competitive cricket and of course enjoy a night out after dark!

Once the team had landed in Portugal from their flight from London, they headed to the accommodation. After checking into their hotel that they later described as friendly and comfortable and ideal for a cricket tour, the remainder of the day and evening was free to get used to their new surroundings in the city of Coimbra. This gave the team a brilliant opportunity to explore the city and get to know all the great local restaurants and bars. 

After returning from their cricket tour, the tour organsiser commented that it was “the area was the highlight of the cricket tour; a beautiful place to stay with good bars and restaurants. We very much enjoyed spending time around the big square up at the top of the hill by the old church that had great bars and restaurants; all of which seemed happy to welcome cricket groups.”

Over the next two days, Garden Fields Cricket Club were hosted by Coimbra Knights Cricket Club, they played two friendly 45 Over Matches; one Saturday and one Sunday. The touring cricketers were made to feel really welcome and had a brilliant two days of competitive cricket, playing well matched games. Garden Fields CC said, “They couldn’t have asked for anything better, Coimbra Knights CC were brilliant hosts; their coach even came to meet us the night before our first game to share a drink and say hi…fantastic!”

Sunday evening ended with a Gala dinner in the company of their hosts where friendships were made, stories shared and events of the previous 2 days of cricket were recounted over a drink or three; a fitting end to a fantastic cricket tour.

The tourists had their final morning free to clear their heads and spend their last few hours exploring Coimbra and some last minute sightseeing in before their flights back to London to complete their cricket tour.
