Cricket Tour to Barbados

For their 2009 cricket tour, the students from Sheffield University Cricket Club had a great time in Barbados from the moment they arrived in Gatwick to the time they touched down on British soil at the end of their 12 days of fun in the spectacular Caribbean island.

Lively nights out in the St Lawrence Gap with its famous night spots such as Harbour Lights entertained the students by night and a combination of four cricket matches, visits to sights and attractions such as the Kensington Oval, The Legends of Barbados Cricket Museum, a catamaran cruise as well as a deep sea fishing trip filled their days when they were not relaxing in the surroundings of their comfortable accommodation or nearby sandy beach.

The group were treated to a variety of Bajan meals by their fixture hosts and at popular nightspots such as Oistins and Accra Beach, all washed down with numerous Banks beers which was also a great treat.

The cricket tour to the West Coast of Barbados was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended, with the following highlights being memorable, (or not so!) for all:

  • Being treated to a variety of Bajan meals after their cricket matches
  • Meeting Tino Best and Vasper Drakes; friendly banter about international results of the time
  • Visiting the Legends of Barbados Cricket Museum and meeting Bajan cricketing greats Wes Hall, Courtney Brown & Philo Wallace
  • Tremendous meals out in Oistins and Accra Beach
  • Snorkelling with turtles and ray on the catamaran cruise
  • A great day of deep sea fishing
  • Getting around on local transport for $1.50 a trip; great for students as this opens up the whole island at little cost
  • The St Lawrence Gap nightlife; particularly the drinks promo at Harbour Lights; pay once on the door and all is free!! Happy days!
