School Cricket Tour to South Africa
The pupils from Ryde School enjoyed a cricket tour of a lifetime on their three centre cricket tour to South Africa. They began in Durban where they played two highly competitive cricket fixtures, with one even being a day/night affair. A particular mention must go to their hosts at Ocean View School where they were very well looked after and the hosts had gone to the effort of making caps, kit, banners and trophies to commemorate the occasion and billed it as a highlight of the schools cricketing calendar.
The tourists also managed to fit in time to watch South Africa v England in a one day cricket International! The group enjoyed a day at the Ushaka Marine Wet ‘n’ Wild Park; a popular excursion for all youth groups visiting the Durban area, where they saw a wide variety of marine life including dolphins, sharks and penguins while also having a go on some of the water rides on offer in the park.
The group then travelled to embark on a game experience, where they were based in the wonderful surroundings of Ghost Mountain Inn. Here they were able to enjoy a river cruise and a game drive on the Mkuse Game Reserve, seeing all sorts of wildlife including cheetahs and elephants!! This amazing trip is a must for all cricket tours to South Africa and offers an experience like no other.
The final base for the pupils and teachers was the vibrant city of Cape Town at the Southerly tip of Africa, where the group once again enjoyed two very competitive fixtures. The pupils also enjoyed a trip up Table Mountain, experiencing the sensational views from this iconic land mark. A full day’s guided Cape Peninsular Tour was also included in their itinerary that includes a tour of the infamous Cape of Good Hope and its nature reserve.
Upon returning to The UK every pupil agreed that South Africa was the ideal place for a cricket tour and that they really had enjoyed the trip of a lifetime!!
