The AGC (Adjutant General’s Corps) Netball Team picked South Africa for their tour due to the fantastic mix of competitive netball and amazing excursions. Spending 12 nights in this epic country they enjoyed 5 netball fixtures and a host of trips and activities.
The team arrived into Durban on Monday morning where they were met by their coach driver. After a short transfer they arrived that they hotel where they had the afternoon free to explore and unwind. We had left the next day free to give them the opportunity to get their bearings with some sightseeing, or the chance to enjoy the beach.
On Wednesday they headed to Ushaka Marine World, a water park with rides, attractions and some very impressive marine life. It is the fifth largest aquarium in the world, and is home to sharks, stingrays, penguins, seals and dolphins. They put on a number of shows and feedings throughout the day.
That evening they had a netball training session before dinner and a free evening. After breakfast the next day the team were met by their coach outside their hotel for their first tour fixtures. They faced off against Lambada NC and then Delta Callies NC, before enjoying some post match hospitality with their opponents.
After these exciting fews days in Durban it was time for their next stop – Ghost Mountain! They boarded they coach and set off for their new hotel. On the way we had organised for them to stop at Dumazulu village , which gives you the chance to experience some of the local culture and tradition. The area has a very proud Zulu heritage.
Arriving at the hotel in the evening they had the chance to enjoy some of the fantastic facilities onsite such as a pool, spa and gym. The Inn is located on a beautiful lake offering stunning views of the area.
The following day was action packed with a boat cruise in the morning, where you have the chance to see elephants and hippos. Following lunch they set off on safari through the Mkuse Game Reserve which is home to a stunning array of animals such as lions and giraffes.
Next stop was Cape Town. A short flight to the capital city saw the team checking into their hotel in the early afternoon allowing them a chance to explore the local area and have dinner.
After breakfast the day was free to explore. A trip up to the top of Table Mountain offers unbelievable views of the city. In the evening they had more fixtures, with two games against Tygerberg Northlink.
The next day they took the ferry over to explore Robben Island to see where Nelson Mandela was held during his 18 year imprisonment. The tour offers a fascinating insight into the prison’s history. Wednesday marked their last full day of tour, and their last match. This time they aced off against the South African Defence Force netball team! Following the game they had the evening to have one last tour night out, before flying home on the Thursday morning.
