Rugby for Heroes Festival 2022

This event is dedicated to supporting the Rugby for Heroes Charity, who raise money for military personnel who are making the transition to civilian life, providing both financial and personal support and we at Burleigh Travel are honored to support their work.  We would like to thank all those that booked and donated!

A massive thank you to Ashford RFC for their hard work and all the volunteers they have within the club to help make it a successful day!

After a day of activities on the Saturday, each team had an action packed day of rugby ahead, it all kicked off at 10:00am with squads from the hosts, local and touring teams taking part. The minis age groups had 52 squads participating, who took part in the spirit of rugby award which was voted for by the squads themselves for the team they feel is most deserving for performance on and off the pitch, sportsmanship, respect and positive encouragement.

The awards were won by Richmond and Folkstone squads, with squads from Ashford, High Wycombe, Canterbury, Old Cranleighans, Windsor, Towcestrians and Maidstone all coming close with a number of votes as well!

The U12s was a 7 squad event, taking part in a competitive manor to get their hands on the winners and runners-up trophies. High Wycombe won the age group, with Folkstone came close runners up.

With the U13’s being a 9 team event, they started by playing a group stage to determine who would make it into the cup and plate groups. Once they had secured their spot, in their next group they played a further two games to decide who would take the winning trophy home. After some very impressive performances Cranbrook were crowned the cup winners, with Cranleigh coming close cup runners-up. In the plate group, touring side Southend won, with local side Gravesend coming runners-up.

The U15’s was also a very competitive group, playing some high quality rugby, with Deal & Betteshanger winning the group and host club Ashford coming runners-up.

Thank you once again to all those who took part, we hope to see many of you again next year supporting the Rugby for Heroes festival!

Testimonials

  • I just wanted to say what a fantastic weekend we had. From U7 to U13 the players parents and coaches have had the best tour to date. The organisation was top drawer and all seemed to flow perfect. The park was awesome as it was previously such a shame they are no longer hosting rugby festivals.

Anyway big high five to the whole team you smashed it.

    Simply Fantastic!

We had a lot of disruption to our team management this season and so our tour plans were very behind! Along came Burleigh Travel to the rescue in late October no less!

They gave us some great touring options, were very very patient and really accommodating when it came to trying to get all of our finances together at the last minute.

The whole process was seamless and no hassle at all. Every question was answered quickly and with reassurance as booking a tour was a new experience for me!

More importantly our lads had a fabulous time, no phones in sight and they enjoyed every activity. Even the ones they said they weren't going to do at the beginning! They learnt so much not only about themselves but also each other over the weekend and this really came through in their game play at the festival. It was also a great opportunity to get to know each other as parents and make some further plans for next year.

Thank you so much to you all for such a great experience and one I now have to work really hard to better new year!
