Barbados is a paradise island, located in the Eastern Caribbean, surrounded by emerald blue oceans lapping at white golden beaches. The culture is laid back in all things, bar cricket, where the Caribbean as a whole has an unmatched passion. You are sure to be tested on the pitch by your host clubs, and often in the bar after.
The island is just 21 miles by 14 miles, but don’t let that fool you into thinking you will run out of things to do as it has some truly memorable excursions for all tour groups and ages. These range from boat trips, submarine tours and island safaris to the Friday night Fish Fry and rum distillery tours. This is the perfect tour location to mix sun, sea and a high level of cricket.
Barbados is sure to create some truly life long memories. You will be based in the Holetown area on the West Coast. This was the first settlement on the island and was originally named Jamestown, after King James I of England. The name ‘holetown’ then came from the beaching and cleaning of ships in the small channel next to the village. It has now grown into a bustling community, and has a number of beautiful sea view restaurants and bars to try.
Barbados offers so much off the pitch that a tour here may well feel like more of a cricket holiday abroad! Its lush golden beaches and clear blue sea offer relaxing days spent soaking up the sun or amazing experiences like snorkelling, boat cruises or water based assault courses. The Catamaran cruise is one of the most recommended excursions of any location we run tours too. A day spent seeing the island from the sea, you will enjoy music, food and snorkelling where you may even have the chance to swim with turtles. The Boatyard is another popular day out, with inflatable climbing walls and obstacles in the sea, and bars and restaurants on land, it has something for all ages.
As for your cricket fixtures it would be hard to find another country so passionate about the sport! More a way of life then a sport, cricket is played and supported throughout the Caribbean at all ages and abilities. This ensures that we will be able to arrange the perfect fixtures for you, tailored to your teams standard.
Barbados has all the essential elements for an unforgettable cricket tour. Competitive fixtures, vibrant nightlife and memorable excursions mean you will never have a dull moment.
You will be based on the South Coast in the St Lawrence Gap area. This 1.5km stretch of sandy beaches is the nightlife centre of Barbados with the best, and busiest, bars, restaurants and nightclubs. Make sure you check out the Boat Yard and Harbour Lights night club which for £10 entry offers free drinks all night.
Like with the school tours one of the most popular and most highly recommended trips is a day out on a catamaran where you get the chance to swim with tropical fish and even turtles. An island safari is a brilliant way to explore the island, or a rum tour to one of the local distilleries. On a Friday a trip to Oistins Fish Fry is a must with music, drinks and fresh fish on the BBQ (including sword fish, mahi-mahi and flying fish) it is a real Bajan experience.
As a region renowned for it’s cricket you are sure to find some thrilling fixtures during your tour to Barbados. With brilliant facilities, flair, passion and a stellar reputation as hosts the teams in Barbados will certainly look to beat you on the field, and in the bar.
“The tour was excellent. Communication at all stages from Burleigh Travel was second to none; both prior to and during the tour. Barbados is a wonderful destination for any touring side as it has something for everyone, people very keen on playing cricket will enjoy the cricket while those who are more interested in the social aspect will also have an excellent time. The Catamaran cruise was the highlight of the tour and everyone who goes to Barbados should experience this, it is the most relaxing experience one could ask for with good music, food and drink. I genuinely believe the Catamaran makes the tour. Harbour lights and Oistins fish market on Friday nights are also excursions that are a must for groups around our age, although not much can be remembered about these nights. Burleigh is an excellent company to work with and in 2 years when the club organise another tour I will be recommending Burleigh highly; as I will for any tours I do with my own local club.” – Liverpool University Cricket Tour to Barbados
