Spain continues to be one of the most popular destinations for sports tours and holidays, and for good reason! Its gorgeous Mediterranean climate, award winning beaches, beautiful cities and fantastic nightlife and food make it a very appealing choice.
Lloret de Mar in the Catalonia region is one of our most popular Spanish destinations and where the majority of our touring hockey teams will stay. Located on the coast it is known for its beautiful sandy beaches. The main beach in the city is Playa de Lloret, which is a mile-long and has a promenade full of shops, bars and restaurants. Lloret is also known for its nightlife and has a number of very popular clubs and pubs. There are also water parks close by that offer a fantastic day out.
Lloret is just an hour away from Barcelona. This bustling, lively, historic city has an excellent range of museums, architecture, historic monuments and amusement parks. You have the opportunity to take a tour of the famous Nou Camp Stadium or a day on Barcelona’s stunning beach which was voted the world’s best beach city by National Geographic. When walking around the city make sure you keep your eyes peeled for the world famous Gaudà buildings and sculptures.
Spain is renowned for its passion for sport. While football continues to be the most popular sport, with highly successful national team and clubs, hockey is played through the country and their national team has had great success in the past.
The national women’s team made history when they won Gold at their first ever Olympic, the 1992 Summer Olympics games. Since then they have continued to be a strong team and remained within the top 10. They came 8th in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
The national men’s team have also had a number of success’s having won the Euro Hockey Nations Championship twice and both the Champions Trophy and Champions Challenge.
This success has filtered down to all levels of the game and so hockey is now played throughout the country at a competitive level. This will ensure that we will be able to arrange the best fixtures during your hockey tour.
