Burleigh Travel Employee Zoe Derham has qualified for the 2008 Beijing Olympics following her astonishing 68.63 metre throw at the Loughborough European Athletics Permit Meeting just days before the final selection of Team GB was made.
Winning her place in the Olympics this year certainly caps a illustrious career for Zoe which is hopefully far from being over and her distance which took her to the games is the second furthest distance to be thrown by a British Woman. Zoe’s achievements also include coming 5th in the Melbourne Commonwealth Games with a throw of 61.92 and also throwing within 30cm of the British record held by her coach Lorraine Shaw.
Juggling her training around a full time job at Burleigh Travel, Zoe certainly feels the pressure. But her hard work was rewarded when she received the confirmation phonecall two weeks ago confirming her place in Beijing. She was thrilled to receive this news, as were her friends and family and all at Burleigh Travel.
We wish her the best of luck in her Olympic competition on Monday 18th August and hopefully look forward to her returning with a medal!
