With over 100 teams, 300 games and 3,000 people at our Big Devon Bash Mini and Junior Rugby Festival over the bank holiday weekend we can’t thank everyone enough for all their support.
The juniors were in full swing on the Saturday with the U13 – U15 age groups. The U13s was a 9 team competition, battling it out to be crowned winners of the cup, plate and bowl.
The Bowl group saw the host club, Ivybridge RFC take home the winners trophy, with Salisbury coming runners-up. It was a close competition in the plate group, however Haslemere came out on top to get their hands on the plate winners trophy, and Crawley as the runners-up. Finally we had the cup group with a very strong performance from High Wycombe to claim the cup winners trophy and Moseley as runners up having played some fantastic rugby across all their games.
To take to the field next was the U14s, which was a 12 team event! It was a strong competition with excellent rugby on display from all the teams, having battled through two rounds to reach the final games, the teams to play in the bowl, plate and cup final had been decided.
The bowl final between Nuneaton and Moseley saw Nuneaton come out on top, and we also must give special recognition for Nuneaton’s outfits for the day! The Plate final between host club Ivybridge and Stroud resulted in the hosts claiming the plate winners trophy. Finally to round off the U14s competition, the cup game between Clifton and Chosen Hill resulted in a very strong Clifton side taking the crown!
The U15’s was an 8 team event with clubs from Devon, Oxfordshire, Surrey, Leicestershire, Wales, Birmingham and Hertfordshire. With some excellent rugby on display, the winners of the U15s were Croesyceiliog and Warlingham, with Oxford and Welwyn as runners-up.
The Sunday welcomed a second day of rugby at Ivybridge with all the minis clubs taking part in their rugby festival. The U7 – U11 age groups took part in the spirit of rugby awards, which is voted for by the squads themselves for the team they feel is most deserving for performance on and off the pitch, sportsmanship, respect and positive encouragement.
These were awarded to Clifton (U7), Ivybridge (U8), Keresley (U9 & U11) and Richmond (U10).
The U12’s also took part competitively on the Sunday, which was a 6 team event, crowning Brockworth the winners, with Ivybridge as close runners-up.
Whilst the groups weren’t playing rugby they also had the opportunity to take full advantage of the facilities at their holiday parks and activity centre keeping them entertained off the field as well!
We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone again for their continued support, with a special thanks to Ivybridge RFC for being excellent hosts once again.
