The Big Devon Rugby Bash 2024

Our 2024 Big Devon Bash was a huge success.  We had over 100 teams, 200 games and more than 3,000 people, attend over the two days on the early May bank holiday weekend.  Thank you to all those who helped make the weekend a memorable experience for all involved and a massive thank you to Ivybridge Rugby Club who hosted the event.

The festival got under way on the Saturday with the U12 – U15 age groups all  battling it out to be crowned winners of the cup, plate and bowl.  Well done to all the winners – results are below.

On Sunday we welcomed all the minis to Ivybridge, together with a bit of rain, which didn’t dampen the spirit of the players.  The U7 – U11 age groups took part in the spirit of rugby awards, which is voted for by the squads themselves for the team they feel is most deserving for performance on and off the pitch, sportsmanship, respect and positive encouragement.

These were awarded to Ivybridge (U7), Towcestrians (U8), OPM (U9), Whitchurch (U10 & U11).

When the groups weren’t playing rugby they also had the opportunity to take full advantage of the facilities at their holiday parks and activity centre keeping them entertained off the field as well!

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone again for their continued support, with a special thanks to Ivybridge RFC for being excellent hosts once again.

The dates for our 2025 Big Devon Rugby Bash have now been confirmed as 2nd – 5th May 2025.

Testimonials

  • Bridgend Athletic RFC U14s, U12s & U8s had a great weekend attending The Big Devon Bash. Burleigh Travel are one of only a few tour companies who can arrange for these three age groups to attend the same festival, stay at the same venue whilst not being overpriced.
Many thanks to Chris, Scott, Carolyn and the rest of the Burleigh team for their assistance before and during the tour. It’s the second year we’ve used Burleigh travel and already looking to book again next year!

Wow, where to start? So this was our inaugural tour and we quite frankly didn't know where to begin, other than the fact we wanted to go to the Big Devon Bash. We needn't have worried, Burleigh were superb throughout the whole process. Any questions, they were quick to respond any clarifications, they cleared up in no time and were responsive and clear throughout. The accommodation was more than adequate. It was clean and comfortable enough. Food pretty good, activities for the kids, could maybe be a bit better suited to the age group, (ZIP lining was really well received but Aero ball didn't really get the boys too excited). We stayed at Barton Hall PGL in Torquay. The festival itself was really well organised and there was a great atmosphere throughout. There was a slight mismatch in our first pool game, but I suppose that will happen sometimes. Saturday night back at the accommodation was a really great atmosphere. A cracking band "The Sound", lots of after tournament stories shared and new friends made. Just a great experience all round. Cant wait for next year.

We used Burleigh travel to book a Rugby tour for 40 people (adults and children). The accommodation was great and the rugby tournament was well run with medals and a trophy for the best player. The staff were excellent and and always helpful over the phone and via email. We had to make changes along the way and they were always available and really accomodating and supportive.

Please pass on our thanks to your team and also everyone at PGL for a very good weekend. The PGL site and staff were easily the best activity/accommodation I have been to over the 8 of these tours I’ve been on – every request was taken with a smile and dealt with well, the food was good, accommodation frankly palatial compared to many.

The rugby on the Sunday was well run, the teams there all played hard but fair and in a good spirit and everyone was accommodating.

Thank you from Hitchin Rugby club.

Echo this!  My husband and son have come back smelly, tired but with huge smiles.

Thanks all so much for your hard work putting the weekend together.  We’ve had loads of smashing feedback and already a question on the dates for the next tour.

Big thanks to all the team,

I recently led a tour of Minchinhampton RFC Colts to Amsterdam for the Hilversum Rugby Festival. What a fantastic experience. The festival itself was on of the best I have ever been to. Superbly well organised and great fun. Rugby standard was perfect to.
Burleigh travels organisation of the trip was second to none. The bus was great, accommodation excellent for what we wanted and the guidance we received was perfect.

I cannot recommend it enough. Boys and parents were delighted. We have already booked for next year.

Thank you so much Chris Kite and the team at Burleigh
