Leicester Grammar School Rugby Team enjoyed a three-centre rugby tour to Australia using Perth, Sydney and Cairns as their bases.

The rugby tour began in Perth which is blessed with sparkling beaches and a sunny climate and has a relaxed, easygoing lifestyle that makes it a superb city for the visitor. Here, Leicester Grammar School spent seven nights and were able to renew some old acquaintances from their two previous rugby tours to Australia with Burleigh Travel; their first rugby tour to Australia in 2002 and a return visit in 2005, whilst making new friends and playing four rugby matches to kick start their 2008 rugby tour to Australia.

After Perth, the Leicester Grammar School rugby tour moved onto Sydney, a vibrant and cosmopolitan city, combining glamorous shopping and alfresco dining with historic sights, golden beaches and a warm Mediterranean climate. Its relaxed, outdoor lifestyle centres around one of the most stunning natural harbours in the world.  Leicester Grammar School also visited the country town of Orange in the Blue Mountains, an excellent addition to their rugby tour with some hard rugby and great hospitality!

Leicester Grammar School’s final stop on their rugby tour was Cairns, set against a magnificent backdrop of high mountain ranges covered with lush, tropical rainforest whose slopes reach almost to the sea. This palm-fringed city is a great base to explore the natural paradise of the Great Barrier Reef and have some relaxation time at the end of a great rugby tour.

Whilst on their Burleigh Travel rugby tour to Australia, Leicester Grammar School’s first and second rugby teams each played 5 rugby matches against local schools, and in some hard fought contests they won 8 of their rugby matches - a magnificent achievement in Australia which is a hot bed of rugby talent.

A number of parents and supporters also joined the school rugby tour to Australia, and whilst the boys were not playing rugby, they joined their supporters during a sightseeing tour in the Blue Mountains.  The rugby players and supporters also joined up to take a Catamaran trip to the Great Barrier Reef on their final day which was an exciting and enjoyable end to their school rugby tour.

After a well earned rest, Leicester Grammar School rugby team are looking forward to the New Year when they will start organising their next international rugby tour with Burleigh Travel!
