Bournemouth Festival 2022

To kick start our end of season 2022 festivals we headed down to the South Coast to welcome our groups ahead of an action packed weekend full of rugby.

A massive thank you for all the support from all the groups over the past few years and to Oakmeadians RFC and Lytchett Minster RFC for being excellent hosts on both days!

The Oakmeadians Round Up

As ever the minis age groups kick started the rugby on the Saturday at Oakmeadians RFC for their first day of rugby. Ages U7 – U11 took part in the spirit of rugby award which which are voted for by the squads themselves for the team they feel is most deserving for performance on and off the pitch, sportsmanship, respect and positive encouragement.

These were awarded to Grasshoppers, Teddington, Witney, Reeds Weybridge and Oakmeadians, which were all thoroughly deserved. The U12’s took part in a competitive event that saw Enfield Ignatians winning and Grasshoppers as runners-up.

The Juniors teams played at Oakmeadians RFC on the Sunday as their second day of rugby, after being at Lytchett Minster RFC on the Saturday.

The U13’s was a 6 team event, consisting of host club Oakmeadians, as well as Gravesend, Clifton, Grasshoppers, Enfield Ignatians and Camberley.  The outcome of the U13’s resulted in Clifton taking 1st place and Camberley taking 2nd place.

The U15’s was also a very competitive group with 5 teams taking part with touring team Canterbury winning and host club Oakmeadians as runners-up.

The Lytchett Minster Round Up

Our second hosts of the tour welcomed the junior age groups on the Saturday which was a fantastic day of rugby.

The U13’s was an eight team event, that were split into two groups of four for the first stage of their day. The result of these groups then determined who would be playing in the cup and plate final matches. The cup final match was between Clifton and Grasshoppers, with Clifton coming out on top to take home the winners trophy. The plate game was between host club Lytchett Minster and Enfield Ignations, which saw the hosts taking the victory.

The U14’s played some great rugby and the touring teams were joined by local team Dorchester. First and Second spot were taken by two touring teams, Welwyn Garden City (1st palce) and Northampton Casuals (2nd Place).

A real competitive performance was on display by the U15’s with it coming down to the last game between the six sides! Canterbury and Eastbourne headed into their final match with it all to play for as it was winner takes all. It came down to the last minute of the game where Canterbury scored some final points to take the top spot, just over Eastbourne who settled for second.

The Sunday at Lytchett Minster was host to over 80 minis squads from U7’s up to the U12’s where they are introduced to competitive rugby. The U7’s to U11’s took part in the Spirit of Rugby award again to encourage the players good sportsmanship and habits from a young age.

Cheshunt, Poole, Lytchett Minster, Teddington and Pinner all received the Spirit of Rugby Awards voted for by their opposition. The U12’s once again saw the top two as Grasshoppers and Enfield Ignatians, however it was Grasshoppers who took the winners trophy home and Enfield who came runners-up at Lytchett Minster.

Thank you once again to all those who took part and made it a memorable 2 days of rugby! We hope to see many of you again next year down on the South Coast for another action packed weekend of rugby and much more…

Testimonials

  • I just wanted to say what a fantastic weekend we had. From U7 to U13 the players parents and coaches have had the best tour to date. The organisation was top drawer and all seemed to flow perfect. The park was awesome as it was previously such a shame they are no longer hosting rugby festivals.

Anyway big high five to the whole team you smashed it.
