The Hilversum International Rugby Festival - Holland

The Hilversum International Rugby Festival is a fantastic rugby event which takes place over the Easter weekend at this famous club within Holland with the first Dutch born professional rugby player Tim Visser played in his younger years.

The festival caters for age groups from mini’s rugby through to colts and it really is a suitable festival for all of these age groups, a huge benefit of this event compared to some other European rugby festivals is that you can play within your UK age group rather than having to play up a year into your continental age group. This is something teams have found to be hugely beneficial to them previously.

With the festival taking part over one day, there are a number of ways we can tailor your tour to provide you with exactly what you are looking for in your free time. Hilversum is approximately a 40 minute drive from Amsterdam and as such your accommodation is likely to be within an hour of the city, so many teams of all ages decide to do a day trip to the city on the Saturday, with famous sites to see there are plenty of things to keep you occupied and a number of our teams have used this opportunity to do an Ajax stadium tour which always proves  to be popular, we have a number of staff who have participated in this stadium tour, some of whom are far more into their rugby than football but everyone agrees it is an impressive stadium and tour.

Another great option for some age groups is a day trip to one of Holland’s theme parks, there are various different parks available with some more suitable for your group depending on your groups age, if you need any assistance with this, please contact our knowledgeable team of tour coordinators who will be more than happy to talk you through your options.

And finally, if you have a big squad size  some teams chose to  have a warm up game on the Saturday against a Dutch club.

Rugby clubs in Holland are some of the most hospitable in our experience and they really do have a passion for the game and all take the 3rd half very seriously. Getting to socialise with the hosts is a fantastic way not only to get ready for the next day of rugby but also to provide your group with some invaluable touring experiences.

Depending on the age of your group, there are a number of locations you could look to stay from hostels in or near to Amsterdam to high quality holiday parks, there is sure to be something for everyone and every budget.

We have been successfully offering tours to this location for a number of years and would be delighted to offer your group a tour.

Please note that due to the number of tours already transferred to next season as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic space is already becoming limited so if these are of interest to you, we would ask you contact us as soon as possible so we can look to provide a memorable touring experience for you and your team.

At Burleigh Travel we can organise a range of rugby tours for  teams of all ages. Please visit our website where you can read more about our range of rugby tours.

Testimonials

  • Great tournament. Fabulous atmosphere with over 60 teams competing on the same day, mostly touring teams with all the costumes and colour that go with a tour. Incredibly well organised.
