Queen Mary University took their men’s and women’s hockey teams over to Amsterdam for an end of season tour! Spending 4 nights in this vibrant city they had plenty of time to enjoy the world famous night life and two fixtures for each team. Amsterdam is one of our most popular destinations for university sports tours due to its fantastic nightlife and the post match hospitality of our host teams.
The team gathered at the University to meet their coach on Thursday morning. They headed down to Dover for the ferry crossing, and were in Amsterdam by the evening. We had booked a two course meal for them, before they got their tour started with an evening out in the city.
The following day there were more than a few sore heads, so the morning and early afternoon had been left free to recover and fit in some sightseeing. At around half 4 they set off for their first fixtures against local side A.M.H.C F.I.T. Unfortunately Queen Mary’s two sides were both defeated but commented on how much fun they had playing and how well they were hosted. After some post match drinks they headed back to their hotel to prepare for another night out.
Saturday was a free day giving the players a chance to check out some of Amsterdam’s most famous sights, or book in a brewery tour. The Heineken Experience is very popular, or for something little different try the Brouwerij ‘Tij; an award winning artisan microbrewery housed inside a windmill, which offers tours and tasting. In the evening we had booked a two course meal for the team to enjoy.
The next day they had their second tour fixtures against MHC Muiderberg. Again their opposition got the better of them and both teams suffered a defeat. But, as with the first game, they praised their hosts for how well they were looked after and the nature in which they played. Following the game the team had their final night out of the tour, before heading back the following day.
