General Information
After a successful season that saw the club become South Wales League Champions, the girls from Llanelli Reds decided to cap their playing season off with a tour to Holland based in one of our popular holiday parks. The park offered a wide range of activities for the group to enjoy around their fixtures and the onsite bar proved popular with the older members.
The party set off from West Wales and made their way to Dover for their lunch time crossing to Calais. The short ferry journey had soon passed and the group were back on board the coach and making their way to their destination in Holland. Upon arrival in the early evening the group checked into their accommodation and enjoyed some free time to explore the site and get some rest to prepare them for the remainder of the tour.
This first full day of the tour was spent at leisure giving the players time to make use of the facilities at their accommodation. The group had the opportunity to enjoy tennis; go karting; in line skating and mini golf as well as the popular indoor leisure pool and moonlight ten pin bowling.
The following day the party enjoyed a morning at leisure before their preparations began in earnest for their first sporting encounter of the tour. The game was played at Ste De Co FC; a well known Dutch team, renowned for its 1st division ladies team that attracts younger players from a wide catchment area. This was a controlled performance by the Llanelli Girls which impressed the Dutch spectators and Ste De Co manager, Ronni Steiner, who praised the quality of football played. Reds manager, Chris Hughes was very pleased with the outcome and impressed with the facilities available to the Dutch side. The winning goal came from Nicola Tucker after sustained pressure from the tourists, giving them a well deserved 1-0 win over their Dutch counterparts.
In order to take a break from their football the group also found time to travel to Holland’s famous ‘Efteling Theme Park’ where they spent a full day enjoying the rides and attractions on offer. Efteling is one of Europe’s leading family attraction parks full of breathtaking attractions and spectacular shows.
Following their victory earlier in the tour, the players were looking forward to their second experience of Dutch soccer. Their game was played at FC’t Zand; another established club with 6 ladies teams playing in the Dutch leagues. The Red’s girls followed up their earlier performance with another impressive 2-0 victory, with goals from Lizzie Bevan and Bethan Price. The Red’s controlled the final quarter of the fixture to end their tour with two impressive wins against formidable opposition in front of their travelling supporters.
The group’s final full day of the tour was spent sightseeing in Amsterdam. Here they were able to explore the culture and beauty of the capital city and also take a boat trip around the canals. One of the highlights of this day was a visit and guided tour of the Amsterdam Arena; home of Ajax FC.
The final morning of the tour was spent at leisure to allow a last swim in the park’s pool before the group departed by coach for their return journey to Llanelli.
