Junior Rugby Tour to Hilversum

During their rugby tour to Holland, the junior rugby players of Olney Rugby Club U16’s were able to combine playing a friendly fixture against a local Dutch side with entering a popular rugby tournament; giving them an ideal blend of both kinds of rugby tour.

The four day tour started with the group being collected from their club house and taken to the ferry port to make their way over to Holland. Upon arrival they were able to make use of the excellent facilities at the holiday park accommodation and relax for the evening. The Saturday of the tour saw the chance for the team to have a ‘warm up’ friendly match against Oemoemenoe RC – a team who had hosted an under 16 squad from Olney on a previous Burleigh Travel rugby tour; each time providing an outstanding reception for the touring parties.

The Hilversum Tournament took place on Easter Sunday as it has done on each year of its longstanding history. Teams are attracted from all over Europe to compete at all junior rugby levels. Olney RFC participated in 2 consecutive years and were successful in reaching the knockout stages both times; a proud achievement for all the players to bring back to the UK with them.

The U16 age group from Olney RFC have travelled to Holland a further three times since their initial visits to Holland referred to above – which is testament to the excellent hospitality that the Dutch show to all British junior rugby tours as well as the service provided by Burleigh Travel.
